Steering Clear from Online Criminals
Although it may sound ridiculous, there are people who commit crimes over the Web. Besides the products and services scams, which target online shoppers, there are some individuals who focus their malicious intents on ordinary Internet users such as identity theft. They can also take advantage of the Net to gain private information, which they can then use as reference for their malevolent plans. Fortunately, you can minimise if not completely avoid these things by following these simple tips.
First, when creating an email address, use gender-neutral usernames and steer clear from anything too sexual. Also, as much as possible, use your address only for people you trust and know first hand. However, in case it is unavoidable, create and use an alternative address instead. Second, be wary of strangers and do not, by any means, give out any of your private information at once. Furthermore, avoid people who are intentionally drawing you into conflict. These individuals will often resort to personal attacks just to get your attention. Lastly, avoid logging on to your accounts using public computers as much as possible as there are programs designed to hack everything typed on that particular PC including passwords.
